3 Ideas, 2 Quotes, 1 Challenge - W4

Welcome to week 4 of 3,2,1

1. 3 Ideas on your nervous system

I. Your Brain (Master Controller)

  • Your brain weighs on average 3.3 lb.
  • Your brain is made up of 75% water. (that’s why drinking plenty of water is so important)
  • The Sperm whale has the biggest brain at 20 lbs.
  • The brain has 1 hundred billion neurons.
  • It’s a myth that we only use 10% of our brain, we use ALL of it.
  • The brain can’t feel pain, it interprets pain signals sent to it.
  • Headaches are caused by a chemical reaction in your brain combined with the muscles and nerves in your neck! (that’s why adjustments work so well for headaches)

II. Your spine and spinal cord

  • The Adult spine has 24 vertebrae.
  • 7 in your neck (cervical).
  • 12 in your mid back (thoracic).
  • 5 in your lower back (lumbar).
  • Your spine houses and protects your spinal cord.
  • Your spinal cord is the main source of communication between body and the brain.
  • Your spinal cord stops growing when you turn 5, the body then grows around it. (that’s why its important to get your kids checked)

III. Your nerves

  • If we lined up all your nerves in your body they would extend for 965 km!
  • They can transmit signals at 100 meters per second or 180 miles per hour.
  • Nerves are like the wiring in your house, they transmit signals from the brain to your body and back.

2. Quotes from others

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas A. Edison

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”-  Oscar Wilde

3. Challenge for you

This weeks challenge is from Dr Geoff. He wants everyone to commit to 7 days of walking. The extent of your walk is up to you but the hardest part will be getting up, getting your shoes on and getting out the
door. Increase your walking time each day but GET MOVING. The time to start is now.

Have a look at Dr Geoffs video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EymTZgwfY-Q&feature=youtu.be

If you enjoyed that, please share with others.

Till next week, stay home, be kind, save lives.
